Lower Calf Creek Falls Trail

The Lower Calf Creek Falls Trail is a 6.0-mile round trip hike to a beautiful 126-foot waterfall, adjacent to Calf Creek. The hike is moderately difficult due to sandy sections. An interpretive brochure is available at the trailhead. The hike can be hot, especially during summer months, and hikers must carry adequate water. This is a good introductory hike to the Escalante Canyons.

Site Rules:

• Pets are allowed, but they must be leashed while in Calf Creek Campground, and their waste must be disposed of properly.
• Please practice responsible outdoor ethics, more commonly referred to as 'Leave No Trace Principles', for more information on outdoor ethics, visit BLM.gov/outdoorethics.
• No dumping of grey water or black water from RV units.
• No fires outside of designated campsite fire grates.
• No digging of holes or pits.
• No gathering firewood or damaging vegetation.

Please leave this area as you found it.  Please pack out all trash including toilet paper, hygiene products, and all food waste including orange peels, which can take up to a decade to biodegrade.  Respect the natural beauty of this trail and ensure future hikers have the same experience.  Secure trash in a zippered pocket or bag and dispose of it in a trash can in the nearest town.

Restrooms are located at the trailhead.  On the trail, all solid human waste must be carried out using portable human waste containment systems like a WAG Bag, short for short for “waste alleviation and gelling,” bags are a convenient, portable, and sanitary solution when you need to go on the go. Each bag is sealable, contains enzymes and polymers, and can be disposed of in regular trash receptacles. You can purchase these at the Escalante Interagency Visitor Center, 755 West Main Street, Escalante, Utah 84726, at gear stores, or online. Visitors are responsible for providing their own waste removal system that is adequate for the size of their group and length of stay.

Rock writing sites can be throughout Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Hikers should follow “Visit with Respect” Principles and understand that defacing these historic sites is not only disrespectful, but strictly prohibited.  Leave no marks or graffiti to preserve this Tribal history. It’s important to respect these historic sites to protect the natural and cultural resources on public lands.

Calf Creek Campground is open year-round. Amenities include toilets, picnic tables and fire rings. Due to space limitations, Calf Creek Campground does not accommodate over-sized vehicles. There is no group campsite. Trash collection is not provided. Please pack out all trash and garbage.
