Knolls Off-Highway Vehicle Special Recreation Management Area (SRMA)
Knolls Special Recreation Management Area is nearly 36,000 acres of sand dunes, hills, and mud flats located in the Great Salt Lake Desert.
The Knolls OHV area borders a bombing range. For your safety, please follow the rules below:
- Stay within the OHV area's boundaries.
- No discharging of firearms.
- Fire pans are required.
- No burning of construction waste.
- No glass containers outside of an enclosed vehicle, trailer or tent.
Vault toilets only, no water available.
There is a $10.00 day use fee, or you can purchase an annual pass for $80 (good for 12 mos).

The area is located 80 miles west of Salt Lake City off of I-80. Take exit 41 Knolls exit and go south across the overpass on the frontage road (W Old Hwy 40). Drive a little less than 2 miles, then turn left at the BLM sign. Continue down the road across the railroad track to enter the area. There is a large parking area with vault toilets about a 1/2 mile from the turn.
