BLM CO RGFO Oil Well Flats Map

Oil Well Flats, located 8 miles north of Cañon City, CO, attracts recreationists seeking non-motorized trails in the fall and spring months. Fourteen miles of single-track trail designed for various skill levels of mountain bikers are also enjoyed by hikers, equestrian riders and dog walkers. Lower trails wind through rock outcrops, cliff faces, and piñon and juniper trees. Those who venture to Island in the Sky trail are rewarded with distant views of the Sangre De Cristo and Wet Mountains. Camping is available at numbered sites. However, there are no toilet or trash facilities on site so please pack out all waste. The area’s dry, warmer climate allows for winter use, but summer tends to be too hot. Check the forecast and trail conditions before visiting. Significant rainstorms can cause muddy conditions. The area may be closed to motorized use at a wet weather gate during wet conditions.
