BURNING HILLS WILDERNESS STUDY AREA
Values
Centered on the Kaiparowits Plateau, the WSA takes its name from naturally occurring underground coal fires. Harsh, yet beautiful, dry canyons shelter pinyon-juniper woodland and hardy desert scrub vegetation offering homes for Desert Bighorn sheep and migratory raptors.
Visitation Information
Located between Smoky Mountain/Alvey Wash Road (300) and Croton Road (340) in the south-central part of GSENM. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (National Park Service) forms the southern boundary of Fiftymile Mountain WSA.
Visitor Advisory
