BLM seeks camp host for Mule Mountain Long Term Visitor Area
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is looking for a volunteer to serve as a campground host at Coon Hollow campground in Mule Mountain Long Term Visitor Area (LTVA).
BLM schedules DUI checkpoints on public land within Imperial County
Bureau of Land Management Law Enforcement Rangers will conduct driving under the influence (DUI) and registration checkpoints from noon to 2 a.m., Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, on BLM-managed public lands in Imperial County, within the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area.
BLM Artist-in-Residence presents live musical performance
BISHOP, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management, in partnership with C5 Studios, announces a community engagement performance as part of its Artist-in-Residence program. On Saturday, Nov. 30, from 5-6:30 p.m., composer Daniel Walter will host a live performance at C5 Studios, 210 S Warren Street, Bishop, CA.
The BLM Bishop Field Office offers online Christmas tree cutting permits
The Bureau of Land Management Bishop Field Office is offering personal use Christmas tree cutting permits online, from now until Dec. 24. The permits allow the public to harvest up to five Christmas trees on designated BLM-managed public lands near Benton and Bridgeport in Mono County.
BLM Bishop Field Office eases seasonal fire restrictions
The Bureau of Land Management Bishop Field Office is easing seasonal fire restrictions effective Nov. 22 on all BLM-managed public lands extending from the southern Owens Valley in Inyo County, north to Topaz Lake and the Nevada border in Mono County. The order rescinding the fire restrictions can be viewed online. The California statewide Fire Prevention Order remains in effect year-round.
The BLM Central Coast Field Office eases seasonal fire restrictions
MARINA, Calif. — The Bureau of Land Management Central Coast Field Office is easing seasonal fire restrictions effective November 19 for approximately 300,000 acres of BLM-managed public lands in Alameda, Contra Costa, Fresno, Merced, Monterey, San Benito, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Stanislaus counties, due to reduced wildland fire potential. Recreational target shooting and campfires will once again be allowed on public lands unless otherwise posted. The rescinded fire order can be viewed online.
The BLM Bakersfield Field Office eases fire restrictions
The Bureau of Land Management Bakersfield Field Office is easing seasonal fire restrictions effective November 19 for approximately 650,000 acres of BLM-managed public lands in Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, San Luis Obispo, and Tulare counties, due to reduced wildland fire potential. BLM-managed lands in Santa Barbara and Ventura County will remain in fire restrictions until Jan. 1, 2025. Campfires will once again be allowed on public lands with a valid campfire permit, unless otherwise posted. The rescinded fire order can be viewed at the BLM website.
BLM advises caution near slide areas on Lost Coast Trail
The Bureau of Land Management is advising Lost Coast Trail hikers in the King Range National Conservation Area to be vigilant near three active landslide areas north of the Black Sands Beach Trailhead in Shelter Cove, and to consider postponing their hike.
BLM to host California Desert District Advisory Council meeting and field tour December 6 -7
The Bureau of Land Management will host an in-person public meeting of the BLM California Desert District Advisory Council on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites, 861 NV-160, Pahrump, NV 89048. The meeting is open to the public with a public comment period scheduled at 9:30 a.m.
BLM approves project for public access at Cotoni-Coast Dairies
MARINA, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management today approved a project to build a northern parking area and trailhead for Cotoni-Coast Dairies, a unit of the California Coastal National Monument, near Davenport in Santa Cruz County.
BLM modernizes management for northwest California public lands
The Bureau of Land Management today approved the Northwest California Integrated Resource Management Plan for public lands managed by the BLM Arcata and Redding field offices. The planning area covers 14.4 million acres in Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, Trinity, Siskiyou, Shasta, Tehama, and Butte counties, including approximately 382,000 acres of BLM-managed public lands and 295,100 acres of federal mineral estate.
Interior Department proposes strengthened protections for greater sage-grouse habitat
The Department of the Interior announced today that the Bureau of Land Management has published proposed updates to strengthen conservation and management of greater sage-grouse habitat on public lands.
BLM Mother Lode and Ukiah field offices ease seasonal fire restrictions
EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management has eased fire restrictions, effective Monday Nov. 4, on public lands managed by the Mother Lode and Ukiah field offices. Fire restrictions were initiated on June 12 to curb the wildfire risk. Recreational target shooting and campfires are once again allowed on public lands with a valid campfire permit, unless otherwise posted.
BLM to begin fuels reduction project in King Range
The Bureau of Land Management will begin a fuels reduction project to reduce wildfire risk and improve forest health beginning Oct. 29 and continuing through February on public lands in the King Range National Conservation in southern Humboldt County.
BLM schedules maintenance work on mountain bike obstacle park
A mountain bike skills park in the Bureau of Land Management King Range National Conservation Area (NCA) will be undergoing important maintenance from Monday, Oct. 28 through Nov. 1. The BLM is asking riders to avoid the Tolkan Terrain Park while work is underway to enhance the riding experience for enthusiasts.
BLM seeks public input on recreation permit fees in Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area
The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public input on a proposal to adjust recreation permit fees at the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area (ISDRA) to continue to provide essential services, increase customer service, and enhance recreation opportunities and experiences for public land visitors.
Recreation permit fees are an important revenue source for Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area’s continued operation, management and maintenance.
The Travertine Hot Springs will be temporarily closed
The Bureau of Land Management will be temporarily closing the Travertine Hot Springs in Mono County from 4 p.m., Wed., Oct. 30, to 4 p.m., Wed., Nov. 6, for use by a local Tribe. The public lands described in this order will be closed to all forms of public access, including but not limited to, vehicular, pedestrian, and camping activities.
BLM lifts northern California fire restrictions
The Bureau of Land Management has rescinded its fire restrictions order for public lands managed by the Arcata and Redding field offices in Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, Trinity, Shasta, Butte, Tehama and Siskiyou counties. Hourly limits on use of internal combustion engines off roads and trails and on recreational target shooting also have been lifted.
BLM lifts fire restrictions on public lands in NE Calif., NW Nevada
With the return of cool, fall weather, the Bureau of Land Management has rescinded fire restrictions on public lands managed by the Applegate and Eagle Lake field offices in Lassen, Modoc, and Plumas counties, the eastern parts of Shasta and Siskiyou counties in northeast California, and in parts of Washoe and Humboldt counties in northwest Nevada.
BLM announces fall color ride on Bizz Johnson Trail
Opportunities to enjoy peaking fall colors along the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail, await hikers and bike riders, as the Bureau of Land Management and Lassen Rural Bus offer their annual fall colors bike ride and shuttle, Saturday, Oct. 26. The BLM will shuttle bikes and the bus will carry riders from Susanville to ride starting points on the trail.
BLM lifts seasonal fire and target shooting restrictions in the California Desert District
The California Desert District is lifting seasonal fire restrictions as of Thurs., Oct. 24, by midnight, to safely allow campfires and target shooting on BLM-managed public lands in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, Imperial, southern Inyo, eastern Mono, San Diego, and eastern Kern counties. Restrictions on smoking will also be lifted on BLM-managed public lands within San Diego, eastern Kern, western Riverside, western San Bernardino, and eastern Los Angeles counties.
BLM seeking comments on plan to manage wild horse populations
The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comments on a plan to manage wild horse populations in three herd management areas in far northeast California and far northwest Nevada. The environmental assessment, available for review and comment through the BLM National NEPA Register, addresses population management actions on the Carter Reservoir, Coppersmith and Buckhorn herd management areas.
BLM plans prescribed fire projects in Lassen County
Fire crews from the Bureau of Land Management Eagle Lake Field Office will conduct prescribed burns to reduce hazardous fuels in north of Eagle Lake in Lassen County, beginning Tuesday, Oct 22, and continuing through November 30. Projects will occur only when weather and fuel conditions allow for safe and successful burning.
BLM plans prescribed fire projects in in northeast California, northwest Nevada
Fire crews from the Bureau of Land Management Applegate Field Office will conduct prescribed burns in various northeast California and northwest Nevada locations during the fall and winter months. Projects are designed to improve habitat conditions and reduce wildfire risk. They include burning piles of brush and limbs created in fuels reduction projects, and broadcast burns on larger landscapes.
BLM to conduct prescribed fire at Bodie Hills for wildfire prevention
The Bureau of Land Management Bishop Field Office plans to conduct prescribed fire operations as soon as Nov. 1 in areas of the Bodie Hills, northeast of Lee Vining, in Mono County. Prescribed burning helps to reduce hazardous fuels, moderate the potential negative effects of wildland fire, and increase firefighter and public safety.
