Socorro, N.M. – The Bureau of Land Management Socorro Field Office is seeking volunteers for its upcoming National Public Lands Day event on Sept. 28. In recognition of this annual observance, the BLM will conduct erosion control work on BLM land located within The Box Recreation Area.
In concert with other events around the country, the BLM is encouraging the public to join BLM staff in making a difference for public land resources they use and value. Volunteers will perform work within The Box Recreation Area, installing erosion control structures. The project will help recede the erosion occurring within the upland, which affects natural and cultural resources.
Those interested should meet at 9 a.m. at The Box Recreation Area, which is located six miles southwest of Socorro, NM, on the south side of Highway 60. The BLM will be providing tools, safety gear and gloves. Please bring sunglasses, a hat, a light jacket, water bottle, work gloves and sturdy footwear.
To sign up and get directions for the event, please contact Denny Apachito at 575-838-1252 or dapachit@blm.gov.
