Volunteers invited to wild horse National Public Lands Day project

CRAIG, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management, Sand Wash Advocate Team and the Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary invite volunteers to help improve the Sand Wash wild horse herd management area as part of National Public Lands Day, Sept. 30.Volunteers will help with fence repair and other clean-up of the area.

“This is a great opportunity to help improve Sand Wash for wild horses and enjoy a great day outdoors,” said Aleta Wolf, program director for the Sand Wash Advocate Team.

Participants should bring sunscreen, a sun hat, work gloves, fencing tools, if available, and a camp chair. 

The Sand Wash Advocate Team will provide water and snacks during the work and a barbecue lunch. Participants are asked to bring a dish to share. The National Public Lands Day project is part of the annual SWAT Rendezvous.

Each year, more than 4,000 volunteers contribute more than 200,000 hours to the BLM in Colorado. National Public Lands Day is the largest hands-on volunteer effort on public lands in Colorado and across the country.
