BOISE, ID – The Boise District BLM, in cooperation with the Idaho Mustang Club, will host a trail ride on Sept. 24 at 11:00 a.m. through the Black Mountain Herd Management Area (HMA) – one of Idaho’s six HMAs where wild horses roaming Idaho’s rangelands may be found. In the spirit of celebrating America’s Mustang, the ride is open to all equines and equestrians.
Participants are encouraged to bring water for their horses, beverages for themselves and a side dish for the potluck following the ride. Please RSVP to Becky at 208-463-0656 or idahomustangs2009@gmail.com.
The trail ride will begin from the Tiddle Creek parking area, eight miles south of Murphy, Idaho, on Rabbit Creek Road. To get there from Highway 78 at Murphy, turn south on Old Hwy 45 Street and continue onto Rabbit Creek Road. The parking area is at the junction of Rabbit Creek and Tiddle Springs Roads. Signs will be posted at all major turns.
The Black Mountain HMA was partially burned during last year’s Soda Fire, but still supports a small number of wild horses. Wild horses will return to the Hardtrigger and Sands Basin HMAs, which were entirely burned during the Soda Fire, once the range recovers and the rehabilitation objectives have been met.
