LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Located east of the City of Las Cruces, the Soledad Canyon Day-Use Area access road and parking lot is reopened for public use.  However, the public is advised to drive carefully and the posted speed limit, as road construction crews continue to work along the full length of Soledad Canyon Road and the new walking and biking path to the Day-Use Area.

According to Las Cruces District Manager Bill Childress, the Bureau of Land Management is extremely happy with the improvements, which give the recreating public easier access to the outstanding resources in the Soledad Canyon Day-Use Area. “The BLM appreciates the public’s patience while the Day-Use Area access road and parking lot were closed for improvements.  In addition, the BLM thanks Doña Ana County, the Federal Highway Administration and Renegade Construction for their excellent work to improve access to public land,” said Childress.

The Day-Use Area access road and parking lot are part of the larger Soledad Canyon Road reconstruction and repaving project.  The entire project is being completed under the Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP).  Under the FLAP, the Federal Highway Administration grants matching funds to eligible county, state and federal governments to improve access to public land.

For more information or questions, the public can contact the BLM Las Cruces District at 575-525-4300; or visit the office at 1800 Marquess Street in Las Cruces.
