EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – About 600 sheep are grazing at the Cronan Ranch located along the lower South Fork American River. Sheep will be there until late June.

As part of the Bureau of Land Management's weed control program, grazing is intended to reduce noxious weeds and increase native plant species. Last year, grazing helped reduce yellow starthistle and medusahead.

Visitors to the area need to keep dogs and horses under control around the sheep. Cyclists should slow down and use caution to avoid frightening the sheep.

Sheep will be grazing in areas with temporary electric fence. No livestock protection dogs will be used by the herders, but livestock herding dogs will.
