COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Blackwell Island boat launch and recreation area will open for the season on Thursday, May 26. The site is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily through mid-October.

One of the most popular launch sites on Lake Coeur d’Alene, BLM’s Blackwell Island offers four ADA accessible launch lanes and 130 truck/trailer parking spaces providing convenient access to the Spokane River and Lake Coeur d’Alene for boating, fishing, and other water-based recreation. The site also offers a reservable group picnic shelter, a native plant garden and an elevated nature trail boardwalk.

Annual parking pass vouchers, valid for use at either Blackwell Island or the Mineral Ridge boat launch, can be purchased for $40 at one of the credit card machines located in the Blackwell Island parking lot. Vouchers are then redeemable for a vehicle hang tag by contacting the BLM’s Coeur d’Alene District Office at (208) 769-5000 on weekdays between the hours of 9 to 11 a.m. or from 1 to 3 p.m.

Single-day parking passes can be purchased for $6 through the on-site credit card machines.

Proceeds from fees collected at BLM’s Blackwell Island directly support maintenance and other enhancements to the site. Past improvements include installation of two credit card machines to provide visitors a convenient method of paying fees, replacing the nature trail planking, repairing dock rails and sealcoating the parking lot.
