MORENO VALLEY, Calif. – As the Coachella Valley begins to move into the spring season, the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument Visitor Center has initiated the following visitor center schedule:
The visitor center is open Wednesday through Monday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The visitor center will remain closed on Tuesdays. This visitor center schedule will be in effect through April 14. The following is a sampling of activities scheduled during March at the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument:
Coachella Valley Wildflower Festival: On March 3, join us for the 11th annual Coachella Valley Wildflower Festival. This free event celebrates wellness, recreation, and the outdoors. The festival features local artists and conservation partners, a kids' zone, wildflower hikes, food and beverages, and more. Come celebrate spring in our desert! Although there is no onsite parking, free parking and shuttles run from the St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church parking lot.
Desert Mountains Art Faire: On March 17, stop by the Monument visitor center area to enjoy the natural beauty of our desert mountains, browse for unique gifts, and support the work of local artists. Mediums may include photography, panting, ceramics, hand painted silks, and more.
Wildflower Workshop: On March 21, get ready for the wildflower season and learn names of common wildflowers, their adaptations for pollination and where to see the most blooms. Hand lenses and identification guides will be provided for the session of friendly “botanizing” with the Bureau of Land Management’s Interpretive Specialist. Two identical sessions are offered: one at 10:00 AM and one at 1:00 PM. An optional wildflower walk on an adjacent easy access trail is offered after each session. Free reservation required by March 19th to reserve space, as seating is limited.
Full Moon Hike: On March 30, discover the desert at night! Experience the beauty of the shadows and wash of moonlight over the mountains while looking for nocturnal animals along the trail. Hike starts at 7:00 PM and lasts until approximately 9:00 PM. Bring 2 liters of water, a headlamp or flashlight, black lights (if you have one), and wear closed-toed shoes. Free reservation required.
