Rocky route to Humbug Spires closed during road construction

(BUTTE, Mont.) – The rough and rocky road to reach the Humbug Spires trailhead will soon be a much smoother ride thanks to a major resurfacing project planned by engineers from the Bureau of Land Management’s Butte Field Office.
Moose Creek Road will be closed from Sept. 30 to Oct. 18 as crews re-shape and surface the nearly four miles of road that lead to the popular Humbug Spires recreation site about 25 miles south of Butte.
This project is funded through the Great American Outdoors Act and seeks to improve access to a wide range of public recreation, including entry to the Humbug Spires Wilderness Area. This route is also commonly used for private landowner access, fire suppression and administrative access for the BLM.
