St. George, Utah - The Red Cliffs Recreation Area of the BLM's Red Cliffs National Conservation ARea is temporarily closed due to a water line leadk, but will reopen Sept. 4 for the Labor Day weekend.
“We briefly reopened the site following the Cottonwood Trail Fire, but the water line leak forced us to turn off the water,” said BLM St. George Field Office Field Manager Keith Rigtrup. “It is still very hot and people need potable water, this temporary closure will let us fix the water lines so people can stay hydrated as they explore our amazing Red Cliffs National Conservation Area.”
The field office lifted the emergency closure for the recreation area, including the Red Cliffs Recreation Area campground, day use areas, White Reef trailhead, and the non-motorized looped trail system on Aug. 28, but left the closure in place for the Cottonwood Trailhead and associated trails to provide for public safety and resource protection. The Cottonwood Trailhead, which is also in the NCA, will remain closed until repairs to the facilities at the trailhead are completed this fall.
Closure signs are posted at the main entry point to the trailhead. Maps of the affected area and other documents associated with this closure are available online at utahfireinfo.gov and at https://www.blm.gov/programs/public-safety-and-fire/fire-and-aviation/regional-info/utah.
