CALIENTE, Nev. – The public is invited to participate in a National Public Lands Day (NPLD) event scheduled Saturday, Sept. 24. Participants will work with Bureau of Land Management staff to install three new signs welcoming visitors to the Basin and Range National Monument.
“We will install the signs in the morning before taking everyone on a brief tour of the monument,” said Outdoor Recreation Planner Michael Irving. Irving encouraged participants to bring food and water, and work gloves. He said tools and materials will be provided. All participants will receive a free NPLD tee shirt.
NPLD is a success nationwide because of the collaboration between federal, state and local agencies, private organizations and individual volunteers. The event is spearheaded each year by the National Environmental Education and Training Foundation and is considered one of the largest single day volunteer efforts in the nation.
