The Battle Mountain District Office is planning to conduct prescribed burning activities 20 miles southwest of Currant, NV February 22-25 in the Big Well and Blue Eagle areas of the Railroad Valley Wildlife Management Area.

Smoke may be visible in Currant along Highway 6. Signs will be posted along Highway 6 on days when burning activities are taking place.

Burning will be intermittent and may not occur on every day throughout the burn window. The BMDO anticipates needing one or two days of favorable weather.  This burn window notice is intended to give the BMDO flexibility in scheduling the prescribed fire to take advantage of favorable weather conditions.

The prescribed fire area is approximately 150 acres, and the objective is to burn the existing heavy riparian vegetation which helps to maintain the wildlife habitat of the ponds.

The prescribed burn is highly dependent on weather conditions and fuel parameters.  The burn may be postponed until a window of acceptable prescriptive conditions opens.

For any questions, concerns or additional information, please call Chad Holbert, Burn Boss, at (775) 635-4000 or call the Mount Lewis Field Office at (775) 635-4000.
