Portion of Potrero Truck Trail Temporarily Closed Due to Border Fire

MORENO VALLEY, Calif. - Effective June 24, 2016, the Bureau of Land Management has temporarily closed the Potrero Trail between Harris Ranch Road and Hauser Creek Road. The Border Fire has made conditions unsafe.

Unless otherwise authorized, no one should travel the approximate 5 miles of Potrero Truck Trail over Hauser Mountain. The BLM will post closure signs at main entry points to this area.

This temporary emergency closure will remain in effect until rescinded or modified by the Authorized Officer. Violators of closure notice may be tried before a United States Magistrate and fined no more than $1,000, imprisoned for no more than 12 months, or both. Such violations may also be subject to the enhanced fines provided for by 18 U.S.C. 3571.

This order provides authority to close or restrict use of designated public land for the protection of people, property, and public lands and resources.

Federal, state, and local officers and employees in the performance of their official duties; members of organized rescue or fire-fighting forces in the performance of their official duties; and persons with written authorization from the BLM are exempt from this order.

On June 20, 2016, the Border Fire started north of Tecate and the U.S – Mexico border. Fire suppression activities have been initiated but the fire continues to burn on Hauser Mountain.
