TAOS, N.M. – The Bureau of Land Management New Mexico has announced the selection of Pamela Mathis as Taos Field Manager. Mathis was sworn into her position by the acting BLM New Mexico State Director Steven Wells during a ceremony held in Taos on April 9.

As the BLM Taos Field Manager, Mathis will oversee the multiple uses of public lands encompassing approximately 594,000 acres and over 1.5 million mineral estate acres dispersed across Colfax, Harding, Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Santa Fe, Taos, and Union counties.

“This is my dream job. I’ve wanted to join team Taos for over three years, and I am delighted to have the opportunity. I told the staff that I want to be known for two primary goals – bringing projects over the finish line for our customers and growing people,” Mathis affirmed.

Prior to joining the BLM Taos Field Office, Mathis served as the Associate District Manager for the BLM's Gila District located in Tucson, AZ.  In that position, she focused on administration of budget, human resources, the National Environmental Policy Act of 1976, public affairs, strategy, and process improvement. Mathis also served in other roles for the BLM, including two stints as a Monument Manager, a Field Manager, an Administrative Officer and Public Affairs Specialist.

Before working for the BLM, Mathis had a successful 15-year career as an investigative and governmental television reporter, and later, as a Press Secretary for Northern Mariana Islands Governor Larry Guerrero. During her role as Press Secretary, Mathis was assigned to energy and water development programs with the United Nations Development Council, a gubernatorial appointee to the National Food and Nutrition Council, and a speaker at the World Health Organization. Following her passion for energy and water development, Pamela served 16-years as a Management Advisor for the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation in Saipan.  Mathis helped develop water education programs for the Mariana Islands, the Republic of Palau, Vanuatu, American Samoa, the Virgin Island, and Hawaii.

When not at the office, Mathis enjoys gourmet cooking, wine collecting, and baseball. She is the caretaker for her best friend and mother, 88-year-old Joyce. She also spends time with her two Weimaraners, Agatha and Atticus.

"Pamela previously served in an acting capacity as the BLM Taos Field manager and we are pleased to have attracted Pamela to join our BLM New Mexico Team permanently," stated BLM acting State Director Steven Wells. "Pamela's diverse background and tenacious work ethic will provide her staff and the agency with more functional tools to better manage public lands and serve the public."
