National Public Lands Day Event at Water Canyon Recreation Area

WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – On Saturday, October 14, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Bureau of Land Management will host a National Public Lands Day event at the Water Canyon Recreation Area in Winnemucca, Nevada. As stewards, the BLM manages public lands for the benefit of current and future generations, supporting conservation as we pursue our multiple-use mission. Event partners include Newmont, Nevada Outdoor School and various other community organizations.
The event meeting location is at Water Canyon Recreation Area. It is requested volunteers sign-up in advance, as space is limited. To volunteer as an individual or group, please contact Outdoor Recreation Planner Brian Scott Older at 775-623-1704.
BLM will provide gloves, commemorative NPLD t-shirt and a coupon good for free admission to any National Park or federal site that charges an entrance fee. Each participant will receive lunch following the conclusion of service projects. This is a family-friendly event. Participants are advised to wear layered clothing that you do not mind getting paint on or dirty, a hat, boots or high-top sneakers. Bring a water bottle, refreshments will be provided. Inclement weather may affect event status. Dogs and/or service animals are allowed provided they are on a leash and under physical control at all times. The event will end with a BBQ lunch and volunteer appreciation presentations at approximately 12:30 p.m.
National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands and brings together hundreds of thousands of individual and organizational volunteers to help restore America’s public lands.
