National Historic Trails Interpretive Center announces 16th annual Holiday on the Homestead

CASPER, Wyo. – Discover the cultures of the American West, enjoy tasty treats at the Prairie Sweet Shop, design a quilt collage, decorate cookies, operate model railroad trains, and so much more at the 16th Annual Holiday on the Homestead celebration at the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center!
The celebration will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s special theme is “Women of Wyoming.” Unique interpretive exhibits and programming will feature influential women in Wyoming’s history, and an assortment of activities will be available for the enjoyment of all ages.
“Holiday on the Homestead is a special interpretive event that our partners, staff and volunteers have designed for our local communities,” said Trails Center Director Dennis Kuhnel. “Come enjoy the exhibits and activities, and learn about the diverse heritage of Wyoming.”
The celebration is free and open to the public. Visitors may bring non-perishable food items to benefit the local non-profit, Wyoming Food for Thought Project. Especially useful items include: peanut butter, fruit cups, cereal boxes, ramen noodles, and granola bars.
Contingent upon weather conditions and while supplies last, activities will include:
- Basque Performances: Buffalo Basque Club 1:00-2:00 p.m. Enjoy the music, dancing and history of the Basque culture in Wyoming.
- Cookie Decorating - Design your own tasty holiday cookie.
- Crafts – Create your own yarn doll.
- Hang Out with Seymour the Antelope – Seymour is a BLM mascot who raises awareness about the importance of connecting children and families with nature and public lands.
- Live Pioneer Music – 10:30-11:30 a.m. Live performance by musicians Anna, Rachel & Friends.
- Local Christmas Trees - Enjoy several decorated public land Christmas Trees.
- Military Encampment - Join living historians as they portray frontier military life.
- National Pony Express Association Members - Interact with Pony Express Riders.
- Prairie Sweet Shop - Enjoy melted chocolates from a Dutch Oven.
- Women of Wyoming Scavenger Hunt - Partake in an educational scavenger hunt in the exhibit areas. Exciting prizes will be awarded to the winners.
- Wyoming Gingerbread House Competition - Enter homemade versions of Wyoming Gingerbread Houses to be judged by visitors. Sponsored by the National Historic Trails Center Foundation.
