The Bureau of Land Management Eastern States (BLM ES) office will hold a quarterly, competitive oil and gas lease sale on March 20, 2014, at 7450 Boston Blvd., Springfield, Va. Environmental analyses of the parcels proposed for sale are available for public review and comment. The BLM ES proposes to offer parcels containing Federal lands in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the Mineral Leasing Reform Act of 2010, a list of the proposed parcels and stipulations are available for review at the BLM ES website: http://www.blm.gov/es/st/en/prog/minerals/nominated_parcels.html. The BLM initially scheduled 30 days for comment, and the original date for the close of the comment period was October 28, 2013. Due to the lapse in appropriations and the resulting Federal government shutdown, these NEPA documents were not available on the BLM website from October 1 through October 16, 2013. Accordingly, the new date for the close of the comment period for parcels proposed for the March 20, 2014 sale is November 15, 2013. Comments must be received before 4:30 p.m. Eastern time on that date.
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people.
