Boise, ID –   Norm Jensen, a long time volunteer for the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Cottonwood Field Office, will be honored for his contributions during a national ceremony in Boise on Wednesday, May 24.  83-year old Jensen will receive one of the BLM’s most prestigious volunteer awards, the “Making a Difference” Lifetime Achievement award in recognition of his years of volunteer service, the difference he has made at BLM recreation sites, and the positive experience he provides to the visiting public.

For more than 13 years, Norm has assisted the BLM while serving as a campground host at several popular sites along the Clearwater River in north central Idaho.  He and his late wife Reva began their service as camp hosts in 2003 at the Pink House Campground near Orofino, Idaho.  Together, they greeted campers and picnickers there for more than 3 years before moving 20 miles downstream to McKay’s Bend campground.  After Reva’s passing in 2011, Norm has continued to dedicate his time and effort to providing outstanding customer service and a welcoming facility for the visiting public at McKay’s Bend.

More than 225,000 campers and recreationists have passed through these campgrounds during Norm’s years of service.  Some campers have reported that they travel to Idaho annually from other parts of the U.S. simply because of the relationship they established with Norm.

Norm was nominated for the prestigious award by Cottonwood Field Manager Richard White and the field office recreation staff.  He will be presented the award on May 24 at 11 a.m. MDT at the BLM Idaho State Office located at 1387 S. Vinnell Way.  For additional information, please contact Suzanne Endsley in Coeur d’Alene at (208) 769-5004 or Ken Frederick in Boise at (208) 373-4031.
