SILT, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management announced today that Karl Mendonca has been selected as the new field manager for the Colorado River Valley Field Office based in Silt.
Mendonca (pronounced “men don sa”) will oversee the 60 employees who work in the 567,000-acre Colorado River Valley Field Office, which includes BLM lands and minerals in parts of Eagle, Garfield, Mesa, Pitkin and Routt counties.
“Karl was selected based on his experience, skills as a leader, and familiarity with the issues in the field office,” said Northwest District Manager Joe Meyer. “He has excelled in a series of positions since he began at the Colorado River Valley Field Office in 2003.”
Mendonca first came to what was then called the Glenwood Springs Field Office as a supervisory natural resource specialist. He was named the associate field manager in 2009, the same year the office moved to Silt and was renamed the Colorado River Valley Field Office. He has been acting field manager since January.
Prior to working for the BLM, Mendonca worked with the U.S. Forest Service in Oregon and Colorado, including four years with the White River National Forest as a timber management officer.
Mendonca holds a bachelor’s degree in forestry from Colorado State University.
He fills the position formerly held by Steve Bennett, who retired in December.
