DOUGLAS, Wyo. - The Bureau of Land Management invites past adopters and owners of wild horses to enter the 8th annual wild horse competition at Wyoming Mustang Days, Aug. 15-19, at the Wyoming State Fair in Douglas. Partnering with communities to celebrate and understand America’s wild horses is a key strategy in the BLM’s mission to sustain healthy rangelands for the horses, as well as American families and all other members of the public.

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, August 18, events at the youth, adult and pro level of the competition will include: halter, lead line, riding, team sorting, western cow handling, English Hunter/Jumper and English Pleasure. At the end of each event, winners will be announced for the high scoring competitors of the youth, junior, adult, and open levels.

Additionally, approximately eight halter-started wild horses and two halter-started wild burros will be available for viewing and adoption at the BLM booth of the Wyoming State Fair, Aug. 15-17. Adoptions will take place by silent competitive bid, which will close and be awarded daily to the highest qualified bidder.

On Saturday, Aug. 19, beginning at 2 p.m. there will be a trainer showcase featuring trainers from the Mantle Wild Horse Training Facility. The event will showcase two saddle-started wild horses. At the conclusion of the event, the two showcase horses will be available for adoption by verbal competitive bid beginning at 2:30 p.m.
