West Valley City, Utah — Due to reduced fire danger, the Bureau of Land Management West Desert District will rescind fire restrictions on all BLM Fillmore Field Office administered lands in Juab and Millard County, effective Friday, August 31, 2018 at 12:01 a.m. The rescission of restrictions include campfires outside of established campground fire pits, smoking over dry vegetation, and cutting, welding, or grinding of metal.

“The BLM is pleased to rescind the restrictions on campfires as we go into Labor Day Weekend,” said Kevin Oliver, West Desert District Manager. “We encourage the public to take advantage of access to their public lands over the long weekend.”

While the BLM is rescinding the restriction, wildfire danger still exists. Fire managers urge the public to prevent human-caused wildfires by following the One Less Spark Guidelines. Be sure to completely put out campfires using a shovel and water, build campfires in areas free of vegetation, avoid driving through tall vegetation, and make sure trailer chains are elevated above the road.

The following year-round restrictions will remain in effect:

  1. Use or possession of exploding targets
  2. Use of sky lanterns or aerial luminaries
  3. Use of any tracer or incendiary ammunition
  4. Use of any Off Road Vehicle (ORV) that is not equipped with a properly installed and maintained spark arrestor.
