Fire Prevention Order issued for BLM-managed lands on Stansbury Island (Vicinity of Tabby Canyon Fire)

West Valley City, Utah—The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) West Desert District has issued a fire prevention order restricting access to BLM-managed lands in the vicinity of the Tabby Canyon Fire in Tooele County, Utah. The Tabby Canyon Fire is located on the slopes of Stansbury Island, at the southern end of the Great Salt Lake.
The prevention order restricts public entry, target shooting, camping, and unnecessary traffic in the land surrounding the Tabby Canyon Fire, including: north of Interstate 80 on Stansbury Island, and bounded by the Great Salt Lake to west, north and east; all in Tooele County, Utah.
Property owners, grazing permit holders, and other citizens with need to access the area will be asked to coordinate with the incident commander to ensure safety. Fire Officials have had to ask target shooters and other public to leave the area to provide for public safety and support the emergency fire suppression operations.
The prevention order is posted on signs where BLM-managed lands are accessed. The public is reminded to use caution and be prepared to prevent wildfires when visiting public lands. The BLM recommends keeping water, a shovel, and a fire extinguisher handy during the dry summer months.
