The public will be able to access wildfire related information in Idaho from a single website starting May 1st. The website, http://idahofireinfo.blogspot.com/, contains information on wildfire activities, fire restrictions and county burn bans, burn permits, prevention and safety tips, aviation safety, smoke management, and current fire weather. Before now, online wildfire related information in Idaho was disjointed across multiple agency websites. Having all the information in one place will help Idahoans plan summer outdoor activities, track Idaho fire season, learn how to prevent wildfires and protect property, and stay healthy during sometimes smoky summers in Idaho. The new website was created by the Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service and Idaho Department of Lands. Additionally, the BLM and other interagency fire partners are announcing a new fire education campaign, One Less Spark One Less Wildfire. The campaign aims to reduce human-caused fires and the impacts they have on Idaho beautiful surroundings. The new website and education campaign will help create a greater public recognition and awareness ahead of the 2015 fire season, Mike Morcom, Idaho BLM State Fire Management Officer, said. “We all need to step up and do our part to reduce unwanted or unnecessary wildfires and the One Less Spark education campaign creates a way the public can help. May was proclaimed "Wildfire Awareness Month by five Western governors, including Idaho. During this month, residents are encouraged to learn how to better protect their homes and communities from wildfire, and how they can help firefighters reduce the occurrence of human-caused fires. Additionally, the National Fire Protection Association identified May 2 as National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day. Wildland fire prevention and community preparedness websites include www.idahofirewise.org, or http://fireadapted.org/.
