The Bureau of Land Management will be conducting prescribed burn operations in Musselshell County starting this fall when fuel conditions and weather permit.

Multiple days of burning may be required in order to meet project objectives. The project area is located approximately 10 miles south of Roundup and 35 miles north of Billings off the Rehder Creek Road in the Bull Mountains. Approximately 350 acres are scheduled for treatment. Smoke may be visible from Highway 87 or the Rehder Creek Road until the project is done.

The purpose of this prescribed fire project is to reduce ponderosa pine stand densities and restore a more balanced pine-savanna habitat. It will also rejuvenate rangeland and wildlife habitat. Burning during cool, fall conditions will help reduce fuel loads that may contribute to future wildfires.
