ELKO, Nev. – The BLM Elko District, Tuscarora Field Office, is planning to conduct mowing and ground based-herbicide treatments around the communities of White Rock and Osino near the town of Elko, Nevada.  Mowing is anticipated to start March 15, while herbicide application is expected to begin April 1, 2018.  Treatments are expected to take between two to three weeks for implementation and are dependent upon weather conditions.  We ask that people and pets avoid the treated areas for at least 12 hours following the application.

These treatments are part of the Northern Communities Fuels Treatments EA and 2017 Oil Well Fire Emergency Stabilization Rehabilitation plan and are designed to protect the local community from catastrophic wildfire. The herbicide treatments are timed and applied at a low rate to target invasive annual grasses. If you have specific questions regarding these treatments please contact Sam Cisney, Elko District Weed Management Specialist, at 775-753-0372 or by email at scisney@blm.gov.
