Elko community second snowshoe hike announced

ELKO, Nev. – The second evening community snowshoe hike of the winter will be held at South Fork State Park, the Meadows area at 5:00 p.m., February 8.
The event will start at 5:00 p.m. and last approximately two hours. Free rental of snowshoes is available for the first 25 people who register, or you can bring your own equipment. There will be 2-3 different hiking courses ranging for the novice to the expert. The hike will take place even if there is not enough snow for snowshoes. After the hike, free snacks and hot chocolate will be served around a campfire.
Come prepared for fun: Dress warmly in layers, waterproof hiking boots, bring a headlamp or flashlight, trekking poles, and water. For more information and to sign-up for snowshoes, please call BLM Elko District Office at (775) 753-0200.
The Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, South Fork State Park, Nevada Outdoor School, Northeastern Nevada Stewardship Group and Friends of the Ruby Mountains are teaming up again this season/year to offer free guided snowshoe hikes this winter.
Upcoming evening hikes are scheduled for March 14. More information on that hike will be available as the date draws near.
