IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – Wildfires and other catastrophes are major news and attract considerable media attention. This is particularly true for eastern Idaho, a smaller market where stories about wildfire are often lead stories on the broadcast news and make headlines in the local papers. Though the public has a right to know about such incidents, access to information is often complicated by the emergency nature of the incident.

The purpose of a media fire briefing is to help media members better understand the organization, policies and procedures associated with the suppression of wildland fires. The intent is to provide you with the information that will help you best cover your story while also adhering to our safety procedures.

Our mutual goal is to provide the public with the best, most accurate information. Fire information officers will meet with interested media outlets to discuss the above topics, fire season outlook and fire safety protocols. If interested, media personnel will also be able to practice a fire shelter deployment and obtain interviews from fire information officers.

A briefing will be held in Pocatello and Idaho Falls. Please RSVP to Kelsey Griffee at 208-521-8709 or at kgriffee@blm.gov.
