MORENO VALLEY, Calif. – Bureau of Land Management (BLM) law enforcement officers will conduct driving under the influence (DUI) and registration checkpoints from noon to 2 a.m., from February 17 to 20, at several locations within Imperial County.
The BLM is committed to providing public land users a safe and enjoyable experience on public lands. Impaired drivers risk their own safety and the safety of others. As such, checkpoints, which are chosen with safety considerations for the public and the officers in mind, will be conducted in pre-determined locations based on traffic statistics and high visitor use areas.
The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed or injured in alcohol or drug-involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely. If you or someone you know is planning on drinking, please designate a sober driver.
Law enforcement officers are reminding everyone to "get drunk drivers off the road by dialing 9-1-1 and reporting them—before it's too late."
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
