The comment period for the Draft Regional Mitigation Strategy for the 25,069-acre Dry Lake Valley North Solar Energy Zone will close Friday, August 14, 2015. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) released the draft strategy for the Dry Lake Valley North Solar Energy Zone, located in Lincoln County, Nevada, on July 9, 2015, and asked the public to review the draft strategy and provide comments during the 30-day comment period. Dry Lake Valley North is the largest of five such zones in Nevada and, when fully built, could produce up to 4,000 megawatts of renewable energy. The draft strategy builds on the success of the Dry Lake regional mitigation strategy pilot project, which provided developers with greater certainty regarding the cost of mitigation and ensured that residual impacts of solar projects in the zones would be addressed through offsite mitigation. The strategy was integral to the permitting success of the Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone, enabling three solar energy projects to be permitted within 10 months of the competitive lease sale, about half the time of previous reviews. Written comments may be submitted to the BLM Ely District Office, HC 33 Box 33500, Ely, NV, 89301, Attn: Dan Netcher or via email to dnetcher@blm.gov.
