(MILES CITY, Mont.) –The river is up, the temperatures are up and so are the crowds at the Matthews Recreation Area.

A little advance planning can go a long way to ensure that a group event is successful. If you would like to have a gathering at Matthews, first check with the BLM Miles City Field Office before you send out the invitations.

This popular local destination, located about nine miles northeast of town on Valley Drive East is seeing an increase in use by both individuals and groups as the weather gets nicer and the catfishing improves.

Individuals or organizations wishing to use the site for group activities may be required to get a Special Recreation Permit. This depends on the type of activity planned, the number of participants and the duration of use.

Event organizers are encouraged to contact the field office beforehand to get informed, check for other scheduled events or calendaring conflicts. This will also to allow for some lead time so BLM staff can prepare the paperwork if a permit is needed.

For more information about event scheduling contact Outdoor Recreation Planner Dena Lang at (406) 233-2800.
