Celebrate the 21st Annual National Public Lands Day by Volunteering

On Saturday, September 27, volunteers across the nation will celebrate National Public Lands Day, the nation's largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. The Bureau of Land Management is hosting nine National Public Lands Day events in Arizona. You can be part of this amazing national effort. Events are scheduled for:
- Agua Fria National Monument near Phoenix
- Las Cienegas National Conservation Area/Empire Ranch near Sonoita
- Ironwood Forest National Monument near Tucson
- Dankworth Indian Village near Safford
- Mount Nutt Wilderness near Kingman (Secret Pass Wash)
- Colorado River Nature Center near Bullhead City
- Historic Schwanbeck's Store near Lake Havasu City
- California Condor Reintroduction near Marble Canyon (distance viewing event only)
Participants should wear outdoor-appropriate clothes (long sleeves and long pants recommended), sturdy shoes, hat, and sunscreen. Bring water bottles and gloves if available. It is intended as a vehicle to build partnerships between the public sector and the local community. It also allows for improving public lands for outdoor recreation, with volunteers assisting land managers in hands-on work.In addition to the volunteer opportunities, individuals and families can enjoy the outdoors and public lands for the entire day. In honor of National Public Lands Day, the BLM will also waive standard amenity and individual day use fees on September 27.In Arizona, day use fees will be waived at Virgin River Gorge Recreation Area near St. George, Utah; Burro Creek, Wild Cow Springs and Windy Point Recreation Sites near Kingman; Crossroads Campground, Bullfrog Day Use Area and the 87 boat-in campsites near Lake Havasu City; Painted Rock Campground and Painted Rocks Petroglyph Day Use Area southwest of Phoenix; Hot Well Dunes Recreation Area outside of Safford; St. David Cienega/Land Corral, Fairbank Historic Townsite, San Pedro House and Hereford Bridge Trailheads near Sierra Vista; and Squaw Lake Campground and Boat Launch, Senator Wash Boat Ramp and Day Use Area, Senator Wash North and South Shore campgrounds, Oxbow Recreation and Wildlife Area and Ehrenberg Sandbowl Off-Highway Vehicle Area outside of Yuma. Other fees, such as overnight camping, cabin rentals, and group day-use, will remain in effect.
