(BUTTE, Mont.) – Spring has sprung. With the seasonal page on the calendar officially turned, the Bureau of Land Management’s Butte Field Office has re-opened some of its recreation sites near Helena for public use.

The campground at Devil's Elbow on Hauser Lake opened March 24, as did the lower loop at Holter Lake Campground and a portion of Log Gulch Campground. The overflow parking areas at Holter Campground and Log Gulch Campground are also open—but only for parking, not camping.

Clark’s Bay day-use recreation site remains closed until May 1.

“We’ve opened the gates to some of our sites, but I should remind everyone that the campgrounds won’t have water or garbage service until we start collecting fees on May 1,” said Kelly Scarbrough, Supervisory Outdoor Recreation Planner with the Butte Field Office. “People who use the site until then will need to pack out their own garbage so others can also have an enjoyable experience at the lake.”

Scarbrough said the annual dock installation will begin at Hauser Lake in early April. Once that is complete, the Butte Field Office will install the docks at Holter Lake.

For more information on the Holter Lake and Hauser Lake recreation sites, call the Butte Field Office at (406) 533-7600.
