BUTTE, Mont. – As the rest of the world buttons up for winter, the Bureau of Land Management’s Butte Field Office is also preparing its recreation sites for the change in seasons.
Starting this week, the boat docks at the BLM campgrounds at Holter and Hauser lakes are moving to dry land for the season. Docks are already being pulled at Hauser Lake, with the Holter sites to follow next Monday. Drinking water is no longer available to the public at any of the sites as the systems have been winterized.
“We had a very successful summer season at our recreation areas, thanks in large part to our outstanding volunteers, seasonal crews, and our hard-working BLM employees,” said Butte Field Manager Scott Haight. “But now it’s time to reduce our services at the sites and plan for next summer.”
As an aside, Haight noted that during the 2017 season, volunteers donated 13,037 hours to help keep these campgrounds going.
Butte BLM staff announced further details of the seasonal changes. Clark’s Bay is closed for the season. Devil’s Elbow will remain open this winter, though the group area will be closed. The one restroom by the day-use area will be left open for those who’d like to use the facility in the off-season, including ice fishers. White Sandy will also be closed sometime in mid-November, or sooner due to inclement weather.
