VALE, Ore. — The Bureau of Land Management’s Southeast Oregon Resource Advisory Council (RAC) will meet in person in McDermitt, Nev., Tuesday and Wednesday, June 27 and 28. The public is welcome to attend this meeting, which will be held at the McDermitt Community Hall, 175 S. US Highway 95, McDermitt, NV 89421. A virtual participation option will also be available and participation instructions will be posted to the RAC’s webpage in advance of the meeting at https://www.blm.gov/get-involved/resource-advisory-council/near-you/oregon-washington/southeast-oregon-rac.
The Tuesday, June 27, meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Pacific Time (PT). The Wednesday, June 28, meeting will consist of a field tour of the McDermitt Caldera departing the community hall at 8 a.m.
Advisory councils consist of up to 15 members that represent diverse interests present in the local community. The Southeast Oregon RAC provides advice and recommendations to the Secretary of the Interior on public land resource and management issues in the Vale, Burns and Lakeview districts.
“The members of the Southeast Oregon Resource Advisory Council provide valuable feedback from their communities on a wide range of land management issues,” Acting Vale District Manager Shane DeForest said. “We greatly appreciate the time this diverse group devotes to providing consensus-driven recommendations which enhance our decision making.”
Agenda topics include an orientation to mining law, presentations regarding the Vale District’s Calico/Grassy Mountain gold mine proposal and lithium exploration in the McDermitt Caldera, and an update on the Southeastern Oregon Resource Management Plan Amendment.
A half-hour comment period, during which the public may address the RAC, will be offered at 3:30 p.m. Pacific Time (PT) Tuesday, June 27, and 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28. Depending on the number of people wishing to comment and time available, the amount of time for individual oral comments may be limited.
