Bureau of Land Management seeks public comment on proposed wireless broadband communication facility near Laughlin

LAS VEGAS - The Bureau of Land Management Las Vegas Field Office announces the availability of a draft environmental assessment analyzing the environmental effects of constructing and operating a communication facility west of Laughlin. The application was submitted by InterConnect Towers, LLC to construct and operate a wireless broadband communication facility along State Route 163. The comment period will end November 28, 2022.
“We look forward to receiving public input on the proposed communication facility,” said BLM Las Vegas Field Office Manager Shonna Dooman.
InterConnect Towers, LLC proposes to construct a multi-user communication facility to improve and expand coverage and strengthen the existing communication network capacity along portions of State Route 163. The proposed communication facility would be located approximately one-quarter mile south of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area boundary on BLM managed public land and one quarter-mile east of State Route 163 near mile marker 10. The facility would also be capable of serving radio and two-way radio communications for emergency services.
The lease area would consist of approximately 21,600 square feet (0.49 acres of new disturbance) surrounded by a chain-link fence and would contain the following components:
- A single 3-legged 180-foot freestanding, self-supporting lattice communication tower on top of a 21-foot triangular base and a 32-foot square concrete foundation
- A 20-foot by 40-foot equipment building to accommodate up to six tenants
- Up to three 20-foot by 110-foot solar array(s)
- Up to four 25 to 50-kilowatt generator(s), which include containment pads capable of containing all fluids in the event of failure
- Up to four 2,000-gallon propane tank(s)
- A 12-foot-wide entrance gate placed at the north side of the lease site
An existing unpaved road that connects the proposed site to Needles Highway, approximately 4.2 miles east of the proposed site would be used to access the proposed site.
