LAS VEGAS – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Las Vegas Field Office today announced it is seeking public comment on its proposal to lease and subsequently convey approximately 10 acres of public land to Clark County to expand the county’s Desert Breeze Park. The parcel is located near the intersection north of West Flamingo Road and west of South Cimarron Road.
“We look forward to hearing from the community about this proposal,” said Bruce Sillitoe, Las Vegas Field Office Manager. “The most helpful comments will discuss the proposed decision for the lease/conveyance application and plan of development, whether the BLM followed proper administrative procedures in reaching the decision to lease and convey the lands under the Recreation & Public Purpose (R&PP) Act, or other factors related to the suitability of the land for this proposal.”
Once completed, this parcel will contain a baseball field complex, an adaptive use field, a playground with shade cover, a prefabricated universally accessible restroom building, a warm-up area, concrete sidewalks and a 10-foot-wide universally accessible approach to the existing Desert Breeze Park, street and park lighting, a paved parking lot, and utilities for direct support of the proposed park.
A Notice of Realty Action for a R&PP Act Classification will publish in the Federal Register on August 8, 2023, opening a 45-day public comment period that will close on September 21, 2023.
Per the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act of 1998, as amended, lands identified for disposal within the Las Vegas Valley are withdrawn from location and entry under the U.S. mining laws and from operation of the mineral and geothermal leasing laws. Publication of the Notice of Realty Action will further segregate the land from all other forms of appropriation under the public land laws, except for lease and conveyance under the R&PP Act. This segregation will terminate upon issuance of a lease or publication of an opening order in the Federal Register.
Please mail written comments about this classification for lease and subsequent conveyance to the BLM Las Vegas Field Office, Assistant Field Manager, Division of Lands, 4701 N. Torrey Pines Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89130, or fax them to 702-515-5010.
