LAS VEGAS — Keeping with the agency’s multiple use mission, the Bureau of Land Management Southern Nevada District will hold a virtual information forum to involve the public in the early stages of a proposed Recreation Area Management Plan for the Cottonwood Valley trails area.
The Cottonwood Valley trails are defined by the area of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area south of Spring Mountain Ranch, west of Nevada State Route 159 to the Rainbow Mountain Wilderness boundary, and the entire portion of Red Rock Canyon NCA south of State Route 160. The planning area does not include designated Wilderness and excludes private property inholdings within Red Rock Canyon NCA.
“The Cottonwood Valley trails have grown into a regional and national recreation destination for mountain biking and hiking,” said Josh Travers, Red Rock/Sloan Field Office Assistant Manager. “This popularity has resulted in the need for a Recreation Area Management Plan to manage use in a sustainable and intentional way that protects the natural resources of Red Rock Canyon NCA and meets the public's desired recreation experience.”
The RAMP will be used to guide trail maintenance, new trail development, and resource protection in the Cottonwood Valley trails area. This public information forum will be used to collect public feedback on the preliminary plan components and further inform management decisions.
The information forum will be held online on February 18, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m. PST. People can register for the meeting at https://blm.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_0_fn_NzeScy9KEm-mzpRgg. Information on the meeting link will be provided after registration. Those unable to attend the meeting, or wish to provide comments later, may email BLM_SNDO_RR_CottonwoodRamp@blm.gov until March 22. More information is also available at the Red Rock Canyon NCA website at https://www.blm.gov/red-rock-canyon-nca.
