WHITEWATER CANYON, Calif -- Effective June 30, 2016, the Bureau of Land Management is temporarily closing public lands in and near Whitewater Canyon, Riverside County, CA, due to hazardous fire conditions.
"With hot and dry weather, ample fuels, and a confined canyon with restricted access, there is an increased risk for wildfire," said Acting BLM Field Manager Doug Herrema. "A closure is necessary."
Approximately 4,234 acres of public lands are closed. A map and description of this closure is available on-line at: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/cdd/fire/fire_restrictions.html.
The closure warning has been posted at the entrance to Whitewater Canyon. Persons using the Whitewater Canyon Road as a means of accessing the Whitewater Preserve are not affected by this closure. Other uses of the canyon are exempted from the closure as specified in the order.
This order will remain in effect until fire conditions warrant lifting the closure.
