BUFFALO, Wyo. — The Bureau of Land Management Buffalo Field Office will partner with the Council for the Bighorn Range this month to celebrate National Public Lands Day. This year for the BLM’s 75th anniversary, we invite everyone to give back to your public lands by participating in a shared conservation and restoration project to remove fencing and clean up trash along the banks of the Tongue River.

To participate, meet Tuesday, September 28 at 9 a.m. at the Welch Ranch Special Recreation Management Area north of Sheridan, Wyoming. The event will end at 2 p.m. To reach Welch Ranch from Interstate 90, take exit 339 and head east. Cross the railroad tracks and turn left (north) onto Wyoming Highway 338. Go approximately 5.5 miles and the gathering will be at the parking area on the left, just before the river.

Participants should wear good work shoes or boots, long pants, long sleeves, and bring work gloves, lunch/snacks, and water. To mitigate risks associated with the transmission of COVID-19, the group will take preventative measures like working in small teams, social distancing, and not sharing tools.

Established in 1994 and typically held annually on the fourth Saturday in September, National Public Lands Day brings out thousands of volunteers to help restore and improve public lands around the country.
