COTTONWOOD, Idaho – The Bureau of Land Management’s Cottonwood Field Office will be filling multiple seasonal positions for the upcoming 2019 field season.  An initial round of recruitment for the seasonal positions will begin Jan. 7 through Feb. 8, 2019.  Job vacancies and instructions on how to apply can be found online at www.usajobs.gov.

Unlike previous years, recruitment of vacancies for seasonal help will no longer be open into August, so potential applicants are encouraged to apply right away.  The field office will begin reviewing applications that have been submitted during the first round of recruitment as early as mid-February.  The field office expects to post another series of vacancies for additional positions some time in February.  Positions to be recruited for during the second round will include park rangers (recreation), forestry technicians, general laborers and archaeological technicians.

The Cottonwood Field Office manages lands and resources for a variety of uses and is recruiting for positions working in outdoor recreation, fisheries, botany and noxious weeds, rangeland conservation, and fisheries.  One to three individuals will be hired for each position.  Starting pay is dependent upon education and experience, and ranges from $11.04 to $17.18 per hour.  Some positions would begin working as soon as mid-April, with the work season typically ending in late September. In addition to exposure and work experience in natural resources, temporary seasonal employees build annual and sick leave and have the option to participate in federal health benefit programs.

The field office will extend office hours to 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 16 and Jan. 30 to assist potential applicants in need of help with the application process.

The following announcement numbers correspond with openings at the Cottonwood office and can be queried in the www.usajobs.gov system:

  • ID-TEMP-2016-0003 - Park Ranger, Recreation (River)

  • ID-TEMP-2019-0010 - Biological Technician (Wildlife)

“The wide variety of projects the Cottonwood Field Office is engaged with provides a great hands-on opportunity, especially for students who might be interested in a natural resource-related career,” said Richard White, Field Office Manager.
