Entiat, WA – Bureau of Land Management officials plan to conduct a prescribed burn on approximately 12 acres of land west of Entiat, WA in Chelan County sometime between April 10 and April 24, 2023, depending upon weather conditions. BLM fire management specialists are working cooperatively with the City of Entiat and the Columbia Breaks Fire Interpretive Center on the effort. The area crews will be burning is adjacent to the Interpretive Center. The project will serve as an educational opportunity to showcase how to responsibly reintroduce fire into a fire dependent ecosystem where fire has been excluded.

Prescribed fires are planned fires that are commonly referred to as “controlled burns.” Fire management specialists monitor several variables that impact the ability to burn including current and predicted weather as well as fuel moisture levels. Prescribed fire is one of the most important tools used to reduce wildfire risk to local communities and wildlife habitats.

Smoke and live fire may be visible from the City of Entiat and for safety reasons, the public is asked to avoid the area while the prescribed burn is underway. Fire crews will monitor burn conditions during and after operations have concluded.
