MARINA, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public input on a proposal for a parking area and northern trailhead at the Cotoni-Coast Dairies, an on-shore unit of the California Coastal National Monument on Santa Cruz County’s North Coast, in Davenport. Interested parties may submit written comments during the 30-day public input period ending on Nov. 28.
“Balancing public access and recreational opportunities with proper care, management of resource objectives and values at Cotoni-Coast Dairies is our ultimate goal,” said Acting Central Coast Field Manager Shekeetah Allen-Genoway.
All virtual public meetings will be online via Zoom on Wed., Nov. 16, and Thurs., Nov. 17, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The public must register on Zoom in advance to participate in this webinar at https://tinyurl.com/4jxrnnr2. Registrants will receive a link and a phone number in their email with instructions on how to join the meeting.
The Cotoni-Coast Dairies property was donated to the BLM in 2014 and encompasses nearly 6,000 acres along Santa Cruz County’s North Coast. The property was added to the California Coastal National Monument in 2017. Public access is currently limited to guided hikes. The BLM has been working with Tribes, federal, state and local agencies, and communities to provide public access to Cotoni-Coast Dairies. Addressing community concerns related to increased traffic and noise, public health and safety, and protection of natural and cultural resources continue to be of great importance in the planning process.
