Fillmore, Utah – The Swasey Fire started at 2:46 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019. The Swasey Fire is located in the Swasey Mountain Wilderness Study Area, managed by the Fillmore Field Office. The Swasey Mountain WSA is in northwestern Millard County, approximately 35 miles west of Delta, UT. The fire is currently smoldering in heavy downed fuels. The cause of the fire is lightning.
The number one priority during fire management is to provide for firefighter and public safety first. Due to the remoteness of the fire, lack of roads into the area, and the steep terrain, the BLM will not be assigning resources to the scene of fire. Fire management efforts are focused on using natural and existing barriers, and indirect tactics to reduce exposure of firefighting personnel to extreme terrain.
The fire is currently less than one acre in size and is not threatening resources. There has been minimal fire activity and a series of rain showers has inhibited perimeter growth.
Containment is currently at 0% but will be monitored regularly until the fire is placed into control status.
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
