SALT LAKE CITY —The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Utah State Office will be offering four parcels for competitive lease for exploration of oil and gas resources. The four parcels total about 4,175 acres and are located in San Juan County, Utah. The proposed list of parcels was issued November 10, 2016. The original sale date scheduled in February was rescheduled to March 23, 2017. This change was posted on the BLM website Jan. 13, 2017.
The four parcels are identified as available to oil and gas leasing under the current resource management plan. More information about the parcels, including maps, environmental assessment and unsigned finding of no significant impact, can be found on the project page at http://go.usa.gov/xXk8f on BLM’s National NEPA Register.
The sale will be conducted utilizing the EnergyNet internet-based auction system. Online sales have the potential to generate greater competition and higher bonus bids by making participation easier by eliminating required travel to a central location. Online sales also provide an opportunity to reduce administrative costs associated with lease sale activities and to provide greater transparency to the public. Observers may visit the EnergyNet website (https://www.energynet.com/gov
Additional details about the internet auction process are included in the November 2016 Notice of Competitive Lease Sale (NCLS), which can be found on BLM-Utah Oil and Gas Lease Sale webpage at (http://go.usa.gov/xXk8c). A paper copy NCLS is also posted in the BLM Utah State Office Public Room located on the fifth floor of the Gateway South Office Building 440 West 200 South, Salt Lake City.
