BLM Southwest District to offer Christmas tree permits through December 23

Montrose, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management Southwest District is offering Christmas tree permits until December 23, 2022. Permits can be purchased at the BLM’s Southwest District Field Offices Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Permits are valid for piñon pine or juniper trees and holders are required to always keep the permit on them while cutting a tree and to attached to the tree while transporting. The BLM accepts cash, credit card, or check and permits can also be purchased online at https://forestproducts.blm.gov/. Additional information regarding cutting areas will be provided upon purchase of a Christmas tree permit.

 

“The BLM is excited to invite the community to include public lands in their holiday traditions by purchasing a Christmas tree collection permit at their local BLM Field Office,” said Southwest District Manager Stephanie Connolly.” To make this holiday season a memorable one, we encourage you to take all proper safety measures while harvesting your Christmas tree.”

The BLM recommends bringing along a handsaw, eye protection, rope or twine, extra food, water, and blankets when you cut your tree. Tire chains, a shovel and emergency supplies are also recommended. Remember to watch the weather conditions and let someone know where you will be and when to expect you back.
