GUNNISON, Colo. -- The Bureau of Land Management will begin upgrading the Oh Be Joyful Campground, located about five miles east of Crested Butte, along County Road 734 this fall.

Redesign of the campground will begin Sept, 24 with construction continuing through early November. During construction, campsites 1-16 will be closed to the public for the remainder of the season. Campsites 16-38 and restrooms will remain open and available to the public. Some delays or short-term access road closures may occur.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience while we upgrade Oh Be Joyful,” said Gunnison Field Manager Elijah Waters. “Please exercise caution when visiting during construction, particularly when heavy equipment is operating.”

Upgrades will include a new layout for campers, spaces for RVs and trailers, additional picnic tables and fire grates, more parking, a footbridge over the river and new signage. Further work will commence in 2019 to include day-use parking, group and overflow campsites, and another restroom. The Oh Be Joyful campground will resume normal operation in May 2019.
